From Beginner to Champion
Our philosophy is simple; our staff of experienced and qualified professionals, governed by USFigure Skating, USA Hockey and Professional Skaters Association, will teach the fundamentals of ice skating with a major emphasis on FUN! The Rinx is proud to offer quality programs for every skater, whether young or young at heart, beginner or champion, we have a program for you.
Bronze Program - Learn to Skate
The Rinx Learn to Skate lessons utilize the USFS Basic Skills Curriculum and offer step by step progress for skaters of every age, level and interest.

General Information
REGISTRATION may be done online or over the telephone with MasterCard, Visa or American Express or in person at The Rinx between the hours of 10:00 am and 6:00 pm Sunday through Saturday. Registration usually begins two to three weeks prior to new series start date. Our classes fill quickly, so register as early as possible to reserve your spot in desired class. Town of Islip residents, presenting a current Town of Islip Recreation Card will receive a $15 discount towards the cost of group lessons.
CLASS SIZE varies between age and skill level. Our preschool age classes (Snowplow Sam) are typically a six to one, student/teacher ratio. All other classes are typically ten to one, student/teacher ratio or smaller.
EQUIPMENT AND CLOTHING,WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND WEARING HELMETS AND GLOVES OR MITTENS. Warm, loose layers (not oversized or wide bottom pants), thin socks and well-fitted skates are best. Skate rental is available at an additional charge of $5 each time. If you choose to wear elbow or knee pads, please wear them under your clothing to prevent sliding on the ice.
NO REFUNDS OR MAKE UP CLASSES. Payment in full is required to register for any class. There is a $25 charge for returned checks. There are no make up classes offered for holidays, vacations, sick days or inclement weather unless otherwise noted. In the event that classes need to be cancelled due to a severe weather emergency, notice will be posted on The Rinx website.

Class Prerequisites
Skaters must enroll in the beginning level for their age or next level recommended by their current Rinx instructor on their evaluation. If you are joining us from another program, we offer free evaluations to determine the correct level. To receive a free evaluation, stop by our skating office during any afternoon or weekend public skating session. Our staff will make sure that you receive free admission to our public session and skate rentals for the day. They will have one of our qualified instructors evaluate you at their earliest opportunity.
Hockey 3 = must complete Snowplow Sam 3, Basic 2 or be recommended for class by Hockey 3 instructor, Skating Director or Hockey Director.
Hockey 4 = must complete Hockey 3 or be recommended for class by Hockey 3 & 4 instructor, Skating Director or Hockey Director.
Intro to Synchro = must complete Basic 8 and be enrolled in Freestyle 1 group lessons or Silver Classes or be recommended for class by Skating Director.
Intro to Ice Dance = must complete Basic 8.
Silver Program - Figure Skating Classes & Clinics
The Rinx Silver Program is the next step for aspiring figure skaters. It was developed to accelerate the developing figure skater progress through a combination of group and private instruction and introduce the figure skater to beginning level competition. The USFS Basic Skills Competitions offer an encouraging and positive competition experience. Skaters enter categories based on their skill level and are placed in small groups by age and level. Everyone is a Winner,earning a medal or trophy for 1st through 4th place at most USFS Basic Skills Competitions.
At The Rinx, we emphasize TEAM with our competitive skaters. Our Silver Program helps our skaters feel like part of the team, develops camaraderie, lifelong friendships and the positive aspects of friendly competition.
Skaters are recommended to our Silver Program by our qualified group and private instructors. If you are interested in this unique opportunity, please speak with our Skating Director.
New Classes
Introduction to Synchronized Skating, teaching synchro basics. Synchronized skating is a rapidly growing discipline within figure skating offering many great opportunities, including collegiate sports.
Introduction to Ice Dancing, teaching ice dance basics and the Preliminary Dances. We are excited to have Ashley Halstead and Robert Knopf, former national ice dance team members on our staff.
Off-Ice Dance & Stretching for Figure Skaters, this class offers what every skater needs to take their skating to the next level, improved flexibility, poise and musicality.
Off-ice Jump Clinics (for double and triple jumps), this class is designed to aid skaters with jump development and consistency. Skaters must be able to do all single jumps, with the exception of the axel to benefit from this class.
Private Instruction
Many skaters supplement their group lessons with private instruction. Private lessons may be arranged with any of our senior staff coaches through our skating school. Just fill out a private lesson request form and we will have one of our very qualified coaches call you to schedule a mutually convenient lesson time. If you are enrolled in group lessons, your admission to public skating sessions is free during the series term. Private lessons do not include cost of admission or skate rental. Private lessons are given during public skating sessions and are:

The Rinx Senior Coaching Staff
In an effort to offer the very best quality of instruction to our customers, our coaches meet regularly to stay on top of the current changes and trends in our industry. Our figure skating coaches are members of United States Figure Skating Association and Professional Skaters Association and our hockey coaches are members of USA Hockey.
Gold Program - Advanced Figure Skating
